When I tell friends and family—and any stranger who will listen—that I made a podcast, they usually ask me how. Do you record it in a studio? Did you go to Ireland to interview the sheepdog trainer? What does a producer do?
Truly, our setup could not be less fancy. OK, our editor Caden is pretty fancy.
I’ve written a BTS about how How to Be Anything is made. Now I’ll show you where.
Emily McCrary, host and writer (that’s me)
I work from a few locations: My desk at home, the coworking space I belong to, and coffee shops around Richmond. Whenever I can, I bring my dog June so she can practice her social skills. When I record voiceover, I do so sitting on the floor in my closet.
No, we don’t currently travel to interview guests, but if anyone wants to underwrite us, we will :)

Caden Baughman, editor
Ad Astra Books and Coffeehouse: My favorite local coffee spot to hunker down and slam an espresso. My dirty workspace. My mess of a desk, but I swear I'll clean it soon!
The studio. Lots of fun toys to make music and cut tapes for artists all around the globe.
